FAQs About the Radio Time® Tuner
1. Does my station have to be streaming over the Internet to be included on the Radio Time® tuner?
Yes, in order for your station to be heard on the tuner it must have a stream over the Internet.
2. Does Radio Time® stream directly or do the streams all come from individual stations?
Streams are delivered by the stations. Radio Time® does not stream any content themselves and does not alter any streams. The streams never pass through any Radio Time® equipment, but begin at the broadcaster's equipment and end at the user's computer.
3. Why can't I hear my station?
It could be because the stream has been temporarily disabled or requires a player that is undetectable on your computer. Send all inquiries to support@radiotime.com.
4. Why don't all radio stations stream online?
Some radio stations may not stream online due to the cost associated with online streaming. The Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) ruled that all streaming stations, effective retroactively through the beginning of 2006, must pay a "per play" rate for each song performance. The fee in 2006 started at 0.08 cents per song performance and will climb to 0.19 cents by 2010. In addition to the $500 a year minimum fee, a station with an average listening audience of 1,000 would pay 1,000 times the CRB rate for each song played, making it very expensive for some radio stations to stream online.
