Social MediaExpanding Your Audience

Expanding Your Audience with Social Media

In an effort to help radio executives and station members learn what a smart, radio-centric social media strategy can do to build audiences, Radio Heard Here organized a panel of digital thought-leaders and radio experts to share success strategies that turn online outreach into increased audiences online and offline. The panel, titled "Building an Audience with Twitter and Facebook – It's Easier than You Think," provided a look at how stations can get up and running on Facebook and Twitter and why they should invest the time and effort to do so.

Moderated by MWW Group's Dialogue Media head Joe Becker, the panel tackled issues like the importance of using Facebook or Twitter to deliver real value to key audiences - not just aggregated or borrowed content - and the understanding that a social media program requires a real time commitment. Mario Armstrong, radio, TV and online media personality and CEO of Mario Armstrong Media, Rey Mena, interactive marketing and product development expert and co-president of Emmis Interactive and Tom Webster, expert in qualitative and quantitative research techniques and vice president of Strategy and Marketing at Edison Research each brought a unique perspective to the discussion.

Summing it up, Ray Mena said, "Not everyone can be caller number nine, but anyone can respond to a tweet or a write a wall post. Social media builds station loyalty by allowing all listeners to directly communicate with station reps and participate in contests, giveaways, song requests, etc."
